-In an unprecedented act, transcending judicial protocol that sitting judges should not interact with media,four senior judges of the Supreme Court held a press conference against CJI Deepak Mishra. -Four judges who held the press conference were Justice J.Chelameswar, Rajan Gogoi, Madan B.Lokur,  Kurian Joseph. -In press conference they said "for independence of judiciary and future of democracy at stake they had no other choice but communicate to the nation to please take care of this institution".They also said "any wise man 20 years later say that justices sold their souls and did not take care of interests of this illustrious institution. JUDICIAL INFRASTRUCTURE

¤ 3,143 Court Halls coming up. -The Union Government has set aside  Rs. 3,320 crore for the completion of Centrally sponsored scheme to develop infrastructure for the judiciary by March 31, 2020 . -The Central Government has approved the continuation of Centrally sponsored scheme for Development of Infrastructure Facility for Judiciary beyond 12th Five Years Plan period, that is , from April 1, 2017 to March 31,2020 with an estimated outlaw of Rs 3,320 crore. -Currently 3,143 court halls and 1,682 residences for judges under construction. -"A total of Rs 6,006 crore has been released since 1993-94 out of which Rs 2,562 crore (42.66%) has been released since April 2014 " government statistics in Parliament show. -As November 30,2017 , 17,848 Court halls 44,085 residential accommodations have been made available for the judicial officers of district and subordinate courts. ¤ 5,984 vacancies - However , the Centre said there are 5,984 judicial vacancies in the subordin...

PADMAVAT CONTROVERSY

Controversy : -The movie, initially named Padmavati, portraying the 13th Century battle between Maharaja Ratan Singh and his army of Mewar and Sultan Alauddin Khilji of Delhi, faced hurdles when director started planning a date for its release. -The movie was objected by Karni Sena on the pretext of Padmaavati distorting historical facts. -The Supreme Court dismissed a plea seeking ban on the release of Padmaavati . -The Court trusted Central Board of Film Certification(CBFC) to consider all aspects before granting a certificate to it. -Protests against Padmavati started in many states including Rajasthan,Gujarat,U.P,Bihar and Karnataka. -The makers delayed the release of their film after CBI returned the application for certification citing a technicality.They didn't announce the next release date. -The Censor Board sought the opinion of erstwhile Mewar royal family and two veteran historians from Jaipur to help it certify the film. -The committee suggested five modifi...
